Interview with Marco Foellmer
"No-touch" Web Client, iNotes Web Access, guarantees a strong ROI
IBM Premier Partner ebf-EDV Beratung Foellmer GmbH, based in Cologne, Germany, provides consulting on intranet and extranet solutions for Europe's insurance, banking, and legal communities. It also consults to large Application Services Providers (ASPs) that serve those markets. The company develops solutions using a variety of Domino applications, including QuickPlace, Sametime, and Domino.Doc.
Managing Partner Marco Foellmer was part of a team of ten Notes consultants at his company that Beta tested iNotes Web Access, code-named "Shimmer." The benefits says Foellmer, were quickly evident. "With Web-based client access to Domino messaging and personal information management (PIM), it's now possible to run cross-platform. No desktop distribution of software is required in conjunction with Domino Off-Line Services (DOLS). That provides a very good return on investment. The 'no-touch' Web client means rapid upgrades with lower maintenance, administrative, and training costs." Adds Foellmer, "iNotes Web Access does not replace any product or solution. It extends our vision for our ASP and network computing solutions."
Foellmer particularly praised the iNotes Web Access user interface, both for its accessible design and its functionality. "The new design is amazing. The Welcome Page is very smart. Having the ability to see a "you have new mail" popup window is a revolution for Web-based mail. Features like that give messaging users the same functionality as the Notes Client over the Web."
Foellmer is enthusiastic about using iNotes Web Access for an application his company has developed. "We have an ASP solution for customers using Quickplace. We need Web access to Domino to combine QuickPlace with Domino PIM. With iNotes Web Access and Domino Off-Line Services, we can do it. The browser is able to replicate the needed Domino applications."
Quote from an iNotes Web Access Beta Tester:
"We are very impressed that with iNotes Web Access, in addition to messaging, we can access Domino personal information management (PIM) and applications independent of the desktop platform. It definitely extends the collaborative power of the Lotus Domino platform to reach business anytime, anywhere!"
